DALLAS-FORT WORTH – Planting more trees within the city will provide incredible health, financial, and environmental benefits, according to a new study by the Texas Trees Foundation.
The benefits of trees include:
- The net cooling of a young healthy tree equals ten room-size air conditioners.
- Roads that have 20 percent shade have a 60 percent reduction in resurfacing cost over 30 years.
- It takes an acre of trees to offset the carbon dioxide produced by driving an average car 26,000 miles.
- Total charges for pediatric asthma hospitalizations in North Texas totaled nearly $54 million.
- Dallas’ urban areas can have an extreme temperature difference of as much as 19 degrees compared with surrounding areas.
